Where Bethany Eats When the Boardwalk Goes Quiet: The Off-Season Week, Night by Night

October 29, 2026

"We want to have a corner store kind of vibe," Scott Viselli told Coastal Point, describing the restaurant he and his wife, Anne, plan to open in South Bethany. He was explaining why the new place would carry wine, gift platters and a couple of couches along with the seafood.

They named it Fin & Claw One Block Back, and the name fits the season. Big Chill Beach Club set October 23 through 25 as the final weekend of its 2026 season, and after that, eating out around Bethany runs on a weekly schedule. Nearly every night has its own price and its own dish. This year's openings are arriving on Coastal Highway and in Ocean View, not on the sand.

Every night has a name now

The clearest record of the off-season week is the Local Cuisine DE off-season specials roundup, last updated September 22, 2026. Its list of weekday deals reads like a calendar, and restaurants a few blocks apart have spread their headline nights across the week instead of competing on the same one. The roundup notes that all specials can change without notice, so check with the restaurant before you go.

Here is a sample of the Bethany-area week as of that update:

Night What's on the calendar
Sunday $25 three-course meal at Off the Hook; Brunch & Football at Bethany Blues; takeout-only Family Football Sunday Supper at DiFebo's, a $68 half tray of pasta with meatballs, salad and bread
Monday DiFebo's Monday Madness, with soup, salad, entrée, dessert and a drink for $32; Burger Night at Bethany Blues; $20 entrées begin at Off the Hook
Tuesday Lobster Night at Harvest Tide Steakhouse; Lobster Day at FINS Ale House; $28 Crab Cake Night at Bluecoast Seafood Grill; $29 Surf & Turf at DiFebo's
Wednesday Burger Night at Harvest Tide; Brisket Cheesesteak Night at Bethany Blues; 25% off the check at Bluecoast
Thursday Locals Night at Bethany Blues; Steak Night at Harvest Tide; Crab Cake Day at FINS; Think & Drink Trivia at The Coastal Kitchen at Bear Trap Dunes
Friday Prime Rib Night at Harvest Tide; Crab Cake Night at Bethany Blues; half-priced wine bottles at Off the Hook and Bluecoast
Saturday College Game Day at Bethany Blues

A few patterns show up in the grid. At Harvest Tide, on Garfield Parkway, the week climbs from lobster on Tuesday to burgers, steak and then prime rib on Friday. Off the Hook holds $20 entrées from Monday through Thursday and switches to half-priced wine bottles on Friday. Bethany Blues is the only place on the list with something posted for all seven days, and Thursday there is Locals Night.

Trivia gets its own spread across the week. FINS Ale House & Raw Bar at 33544 Market Place runs weekly trivia on Mondays from 5 to 7 p.m., in a series that started September 21 and runs through April 26. Hooked Up pairs its Monday cheesesteaks and tacos with trivia, and The Coastal Kitchen at Bear Trap Dunes hosts trivia on Thursdays.

The happy hour clock stays on all year

The specials calendar sets the nightly menu, and a few posted schedules set the hours around it. The Rusty Cup Bar & Grill, at 699 Bethany Loop, lists daily service from noon to 10 p.m. Its happy hour runs noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and all day Sunday, and the restaurant says plainly that it runs all year.

Off the Hook, at 769 Garfield Parkway, currently lists daily service from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., with happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m. and fall specials. FINS posts hours of 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. On FINS Fridays, happy hour starts at 11:30 a.m. and runs to 6 p.m.

These posted hours are why the off-season week works at all. An early dinner at a set price is easy to plan when the kitchen's hours are already listed for the months ahead.

One block back, in practice

The biggest change on the local map this year is in South Bethany, at 34444 Coastal Highway. Coastal Point reported that Rosenfeld's Jewish Deli is consolidating to its Rehoboth location in 2026. Rosenfeld's had shared the space with Big Fish Market in a joint venture reconfigured in 2023. Fin & Claw Seafood & Provisions, now at 42-A Atlantic Avenue in Ocean View, is taking over the site, which many people still know as the former McCabe's Gourmet Market.

According to that report, the Visellis' lease begins November 1. Viselli said he expected the new place to open before the end of the year, once health department inspections are done. Fin & Claw's own website still lists the South Bethany address as "Coming Soon," so the date depends on that process.

The plan Viselli described would change how Fin & Claw operates, not just where it is:

  • Seated dining for lunch and dinner, where the Ocean View shop is take-out only
  • About triple the space, with one or two servers
  • An oyster counter, a hoped-for raw bar and a bar, with an application planned for an alcohol license
  • More market items, including steaks, some pork and a few deli meats
  • McCabe's chicken salad back on the menu, plus pickled peaches, pickled green beans and more desserts

"We do want to get back to the McCabe's vibe," Viselli told Coastal Point. The couple's son, Nick, has joined the business and makes desserts, including a cookie cup built on his great-grandmother's sugar cookie recipe.

Downtown, the newest name on Garfield Parkway is heading into its first winter. Coastal Point reported that Fins Hospitality's Claws Seafood House at 210 Garfield Parkway soft-opened on April 2. This off-season is the first time locals can try it without the summer crowds.

Ocean View keeps adding to the week

Ocean View fills in the inland end of the off-season week. Ocean View Brewing, at 85 Atlantic Avenue, lists daily hours of 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and a happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m. every day, year-round. Its weekly schedule rivals any in town: half-price crowlers and a $23 Sunday Supper, grilled cheese with half-price drafts on Monday, half-price entrées on Tuesday, burgers on Wednesday, a featured bowl on bowling league Thursday and half-price wine bottles on Friday.

A bigger addition is on the way. The Delaware Business Times reported on October 13, 2026 that Regan Derrickson of Nalu Hospitality Group plans a second 1776 Steakhouse in Ocean View. It will take over an existing Big Fish Grill, with opening targeted for spring 2027. The first 1776 Steakhouse, in the Midway Shopping Center on Coastal Highway near Rehoboth, reopened in March after renovations under Nalu's ownership.

Thanksgiving week in Bethany

The off-season calendar has one morning that brings Bethany back downtown: the Bank of Ocean City Bethany-Fenwick Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26. The Turkey Trot schedule runs like this:

  1. Wednesday, Nov. 25, 4 to 5:30 p.m. Packet pickup for shirts and bibs at Harvest Tide Steakhouse, 98 Garfield Parkway. Organizers strongly encourage picking up the night before, and you may collect bibs for others.
  2. Thursday, Nov. 26, 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. Race-day pickup at the Bethany Beach Bandstand, which organizers do not recommend.
  3. 8 to 10:30 a.m. DJ Rupe and Cascading Carlos perform an interactive juggling show on the bandstand.
  4. 8:45 a.m. Pre-race announcements.
  5. 9 a.m. The two-mile run and walk starts at Garfield Parkway and Atlantic Avenue, directly behind the bandstand.

Costumes are encouraged, and pies go to the best individual, best family and best pet costumes.

The bandstand should look finished by then. At the October 15 Town Council meeting, Mayor Ron Calef said residents and visitors would see crews completing town projects, including at the bandstand, before Thanksgiving and Christmas, Coastal Point reported.

The week before, Ocean View Brewing turns its Passport to OVB series to France. The Destination France menu and food drive run November 19 through 22, opening with a beer-and-wine dinner on Thursday, November 19 that benefits the Food Bank of Delaware. That puts a dinner for a good cause six days before the Turkey Trot packet pickup at Harvest Tide, and the specials calendar picks back up the following Monday.
